TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Police Department arrested a man accused of stealing copper off highway signs on the Broken Arrow Expressway Thursday morning.
Police said around 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a call regarding a man seen climbing on the highway signs over the Broken Arrow Expressway near Highway 169.
Officers arrived and saw the lights on the signs were not working, and loose wires were hanging down.
Off to the side of the highway, officers saw a man poke his head out of the grass.
Police said the sign was damaged and copper wires were draped down the side of the scaffolding.
The man told officers he was trying to turn the lights back on in the middle of the storm. He was arrested and booked into the Tulsa County Jail for larceny of copper wire and obstruction.
