PITTSBURG COUNTY, Okla. — A Tulsa man accused of leading officers on a high-speed chase in Pittsburg County with children in the vehicle was arrested on Sunday.
According to an affidavit, an officer with the Savanna Police Department was patrolling Highway 69 near North Street when he saw a car traveling 88 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which had turned onto North Street. The vehicle reached speeds up to 100 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone.
The officer continued to follow, but had to slow down once the suspect vehicle caused a dust cloud under a bridge. Once through the dust cloud, the officer saw headlights in a nearby field.
The affidavit says the officer got out of his unit and saw a man exiting the vehicle’s driver side door. The man was taken into custody and identified as 34-year-old Jhermahnte Qwayshean Green.
Green was also transported to a local hospital, where a syringe and small plastic bag were found in his socks.
The affidavit says Green told officers he was given a ride by someone he did not know and was in the passenger seat of the vehicle. He claimed he did not know how he ended up in the Savanna area.
The juveniles told officers they got into the vehicle with an older man, not knowing who he was.
Green was arrested for endangering others while eluding, child neglect, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, driving without a valid driver’s license and failure to carry insurance. He is in the Pittsburg County Jail with a $50,000 bond.
