TULSA, Okla. — Many people in south Tulsa were perplexed today when city emergency sirens started going off a few minutes before Noon.
Some also noted that it wasn’t the usual tone used to indicate a tornado warning.
Tulsa City Councilor Phil Lakin was among those who were surprised to hear the siren.
On his Facebook page, he posted that he learned it was a vendor who was testing the equipment and that the tone that was heard is the one that’s used in the event of a nuclear attack.
He said he has concerns that the vendor chose a time that’s not typically used for siren testing and that they chose to use the nuclear attack tone for their test, given what he calls this “period in history.”
People in the comments section of his post reported hearing the siren as far north as 51st and Harvard and as far south as 101st and Garnett.
