GLENPOOL, Okla. — The Glenpool Police Department released a traffic safety report indicating the speed reduction along Highway 67 has lowered the number of crashes along that stretch of road.

The speed reduction was implemented by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) in Oct. 2025 following the death of 9-year-old Talyn Bain who died in a fatal crash that occurred near Glenpool Public Schools.

ODOT lowered the speed limit from 65 mph to 45 mph along the stretch of Highway 67 that includes the Elwood, Warrior Road and Broadway intersections.

Following the speed reduction, the Glenpool Police Department conducted a traffic safety report to determine if the speed reduction has led to fewer accidents in the area.

Comparing the six month period before the speed limit reduction—Oct. 2024 through April 2025—to the same time period after the speed limit reduction—Oct. 2025 through April 2026—the Glenpool Police Department concluded there was a 45% drop in car accidents following the speed limit change.

From Oct. 2024 to April 2025, the Glenpool Police Department recorded 23 injury accidents in the area, while only 11 injury accidents were recorded in the same six month time frame after the speed limit was reduced.

These numbers show there’s been a 52% decrease in injury accidents.

Similarly, from Oct. 2024 to April 2025, the Glenpool Police Department recorded 37 non-injury accidents in the area, while only 22 non-injury accidents were reported after the speed limit change.

These numbers show there’s been a 41% decrease in non-injury accidents in the area.

Adding together both categories, the data shows there’s been a 45% drop in total accidents in the area since the speed limit was reduced.

The Glenpool Police Department concluded, “Based on available data, the Glenpool Police Department believes that the speed reduction implemented by ODOT has had a measurable and positive impact on public safety along the 151st Street corridor. The reduction in both injury and non-injury accidents suggests improved driving conditions and reduced crash severity.”

The department did state this data only reflects the sections of Highway 67 in their jurisdiction, stating some areas of the roadway are monitored by Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

However, the department said it’s currently working with ODOT to continue assisting the City of Glenpool’s annexation process aiming to expand the Glenpool Police Department’s jurisdiction to all portions of Highway 67 within Glenpool’s city limits.

The department stated, “Expanded jurisdiction will allow for more comprehensive enforcement of traffic and criminal laws, further contributing to public safety along the corridor.”
