CLAREMORE, Okla. — People packed into the City of Claremore’s public hearing Monday night on the controversial proposed data center, Project Mustang.

The conversation around Project Mustang has been controversial. The city council mentioned it was trying to work things out so it could be a benefit for the neighbors, but many still don’t want it.

The City of Claremore had its scheduled city council meeting, where a public hearing about Project Mustang was held. Council members heard from residents on their ideas and questions they still had about the proposed data center.

Beil Infrastructure wants to build Project Mustang at Claremore Industrial Park. Many residents are opposed to the data center due to its proximity to homes, potentially raising electric bills, increasing water usage, and causing constant noise and vibrations from the building.

“If you approve this data center, you will be destroying the lives of myself and the other people that live in the neighborhoods that border your data center,” said one resident against Project Mustang.

Others said the data center could help the community and continue their way of providing for their family.

“Everything that people grumble and complain about in Claremore. The data center says, ‘we’re going to help fix it,’” said a resident for Project Mustang. “The city’s going to reap revenue from electric sales. The data center’s going to put in their own infrastructure.”

In the end, residents said they just want their voices heard before the city councilors vote.

No decision was made on Monday. The council is scheduled to vote on the plan after the next public hearing on May 18 at 6 p.m.
