PITTSBURG COUNTY, Okla. — An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper was injured Monday after his unit was struck by a vehicle in Pittsburg County.
Troopers were responding to an injury collision involving an overturned dump truck around 10 a.m. Monday. During the response, a trooper was traveling on State Highway 9 near State Highway 9A in the Longtown area with their lights and sirens activated.
While attempting to pass a vehicle on the left, the vehicle turned left into a private drive and struck the trooper.
The crash caused the patrol unit to roll several times before coming to rest upright off the roadway. OHP says the trooper was pinned inside the vehicle for 15 minutes before being extricated from the unit.
The trooper was taken to a Tulsa-area hospital and listed as stable before being released in the evening.
The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
