Earlier this month, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol was called out to the scene of a single-car crash near Berryhill, but when they arrived, the driver was gone.

However, the passenger and his 10-year-old son were near an SUV that had damage. Reports said that 45-year-old Lucas Monroe Lawson crashed his SUV into a mailbox and decided to walk home on foot. The passenger eventually told troopers that Lawson was driving, had hit the mailbox, and left the scene.

Reports said troopers went to Lawson’s home, and he told them he and the passenger were both drunk, but the passenger was “more drunk,” so Lawson decided to drive the three of them home. Troopers said Lawson had glossy eyes and smelled of alcohol, but he refused any sobriety tests.

Lawson has an extensive arrest record, involving DUI, eluding, obstructing, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of a controlled drug, possession of a stolen vehicle, improper license decal, grand larceny, concealing stolen property, and carrying a firearm after a felony conviction.
