Coweta Police Department launches new online reporting system

COWETA, Okla. — The Coweta Police Department has launched a new online reporting system for certain nonviolent incidents that do not require immediate officer response.

The new system through LexisNexis, will receive incidents in city limits such as lost property, vandalism, theft, insurance-related reports and other nonviolent property-related incidents.

Final eligibility for online reporting will depend on the details of the incident and department property.

A full list of eligible incident types is available on the City of Coweta website, along with additional information on how to use LexisNexis to file a report.

Reports submitted through LexisNexis are reviewed by the department’s administrative sergeant.

Depending on the information provided, a report may be returned for clarification, assigned to an officer or detective for follow-up, or filed as an information report.

If officer follow-up is needed, dispatch will send an on-duty officer, or the report will be assigned for additional review.

The system is not intended to eliminate police response. Officers will continue to respond in person to emergencies, active incidents and calls requiring an immediate police response.

Community members should also continue to report incidents in person when appropriate.

Police said the online reporting system is not an emergency response tool and is not monitored as one.

Residents should call 911 if there is an emergency, including if a crime is actively happening or there is a threat to public safety.
