TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols is inviting people to a public meeting this Sunday, where he’ll give a progress report on his Safe Move Tulsa initiative.
Safe Move Tulsa is the city’s ongoing effort to reduce homelessness to what they call ‘functional zero’ by the year 2030.
The public meeting is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the City Council chambers at City Hall in downtown Tulsa.
In the meantime, the Mayor’s Office previewed some of the program’s recent achievements to date.
Since the program started in November last year, They say nearly 120 homeless people have been rehoused and have stayed connected to long-term support services.
They say six homeless camps have been decommissioned, including all of downtown Tulsa.
They say a new low-barrier shelter called The Harbor is set to open late this year that will space to accommodate around 180 people.
The most recent Point-in-Time count put the city’s homeless population at around 1,500, around 400 of which were not sheltered.
