OKLAHOMA COUNTY, Okla. — Former death row inmate Richard Glossip was released from prison on bond while awaiting a retrial in a 1997 murder case after an Oklahoma County judge granted his request for bail.

Court records show bail was set at $500,000, and he will be required to wear an ankle monitor and live with his spouse at their home.

Under a temporary commitment order, Glossip must also follow a curfew from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. and have no contact with witnesses.

Lea Glossip, Richard’s wife, sent in a statement to FOX23 that reads:

Both Richard and I are deeply grateful for the court’s decision. We have been praying for this day, and it’s been an emotional morning. After everything we’ve been through together over the years, knowing that my husband is finally coming home is a feeling that is difficult for us to adequately describe. Again, we’re both deeply grateful.

Glossip was convicted of first-degree murder in the January 1997 death of Barry Van Treese. The U.S. Supreme Court later overturned that conviction in 2025.

A new preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 23.
