TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Police officers and Tulsa Animal Services officers responded to a coyote attack near Rosa Parks Elementary School Tuesday afternoon.
Tulsa Police Department said that a parent was bitten by a coyote while picking up his child from school.
The coyote was under the man’s truck and bit him while he was loading the child into the vehicle.
The parent was taken to the hospital and treated.
Officers were able to track the coyote near QuikTrip headquarters.
The coyote was put down by officers because of the attack and the potential risk of rabies, which TPD said the animal is being tested for.
TPD officials said that coyotes are mostly harmless to humans and attacks in the city are rare.
They urged residents to avoid contact with coyotes and to never feed them.
