OWASSO, Okla. — It was a close call for drivers on Highway 169 in Owasso Tuesday, when a semi truck going northbound lost control and went across the median into the southbound lanes.
It happened around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 9500 block of southbound Highway 169.
Owasso Police Captain Nick Boatman says the semi apparently blew a tire, causing it to lose control.
He says there was a lot of traffic in the southbound lanes and says it’s amazing that there were no collisions.
“He (the semi driver) must have found a lane to shimmy that wasn’t occupied at the time, and I’m sure the other drivers heading southbound were doing all they could, steering those wheels, to make sure they didn’t hit him,” Boatman said.
He says two motorcycle riders were close enough to the semi to be hit by dirt and debris from the median that was churned up into the air by the semi.
He says they only had minor injuries from being struck by the debris.
He says one southbound lane was closed for about two hours.
