To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Route 66, The Church Studio has a new exhibit exploring the Oklahoma musicians who traveled the highway.
The exhibit, “One for the Road: Oklahoma Music and Route 66,” traces its influence on jazz, blues, western swing, rockabilly, rock and roll, and The Tulsa Sound. It features many of the Oklahoma musicians whose careers and influence were tied to the highway, including Woody Guthrie, Bob Wills, Wanda Jackson, Patti Page, Roger Miller, Roy Clark, and Leon Russell.
The highway that linked Tulsa and Los Angeles helped carry the Tulsa Sound to a national audience and connected Oklahoma musicians with artists and collaborators across the country.
The Church Studio is located at 304 S. Trenton Ave.
