TULSA, OK — With the first day of school approaching, the City of Tulsa is preparing to reopen East 91st Street between South Harvard and South Yale.
The road will open on Aug. 13, restoring one lane of traffic in each direction to ease access to Jenks East Elementary and Jenks East Intermediate.
Until that date, the corridor remains an active construction zone, and families attending early Meet the Teacher events will need to follow detours. City officials urge drivers to expect delays during morning drop‑offs, afternoon pick‑ups, and after‑school activities, and to use extra caution in the school zone.
The reopening is a temporary relief as construction will continue through late fall. Crews are rebuilding and extending bridge structures, regrading the roadway, adding new sidewalks for pedestrian safety, and relocating 12‑inch and 36‑inch waterlines. Portions of the roadway will also be milled and overlaid for smoother travel.
The $4.985 million Improve Our Tulsa project, contracted to Paragon Contractors, was planned in coordination with Jenks Public Schools and city leaders to maintain safe access for students, families, and nearby residents throughout construction.
