If you commute between Tulsa and Sand Springs, you’re about to get even more familiar with those orange road construction barrels.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation said four projects will begin Tuesday on Highway 412, plus one on Highway 97 in Sand Springs.
First, ODOT said a $3 million bridge deck replacement and substructure repair project will happen over 177th W. Ave. in Sand Springs. This work is happening near the ongoing construction at Shell Creek and will have traffic reduced to one lane in each direction through late spring 2027, if the weather cooperates.
Next, three more crossings will be under construction at Main St. in Sand Springs, 49th W. Ave. and 33rd W. Ave. in west Tulsa. ODOT said the $6.5 million project also includes replacing bridge decks and repairs to bridge substructures. Highway 412 will again be narrowed to one lane each way over Main St. and two lanes each way at both 49th W. Ave. and 33rd W. Ave.
Again, if weather cooperates, ODOT said those repairs should be finished by late spring 2027.
On top of the projects on US-412, ODOT said work is getting started on State Highway 97 over the Arkansas River. That project will cost roughly $460,000 and includes substructure repairs, plus joint sealing and flood coating.
ODOT said drivers can expect northbound traffic to be down to one lane, but they added that both lanes will stay open between 6am and 9am on weekdays for the morning rush hour.
If weather cooperates, ODOT said the work there should be completed in early 2027.
