The University of Tulsa football team is reeling after the death of 30-year-old Kayla Saager-Beckley, the wife of TU outside linebacker coach John Beckley.
Tulsa head football coach Tre Lamb recently announced the team will wear helmet stickers in honor of Beckley’s wife, who died suddenly.
“John Beckley, outside linebacker’s coach, his wife Kayla passed away suddenly Wednesday morning about 7 a.m. of a medical emergency. She was working out; 10 minutes later, she was found unresponsive,” Lamb said. “It’s been a really hard week for him, for us as a staff, the coach’s wives. She was 30 years old and was pregnant with their daughter, Sawyer.”
Sawyer would have been their first child.
No cause of death has been given. Kayla was a soccer star from Binghamton University in New York and was named the 2017 America East Striker of the Year.
“We’re going to honor her with a helmet sticker this week at our game, and she’s definitely in our thoughts and prayers,” Lamb said.
