BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — If you think the water in Broken Arrow has an odd taste lately, it’s not your imagination.
City officials posted on Facebook that with the hot, dry weather, the city’s water supply in the Verdigris River forms an organic compound called methylisoborneol, or MIB for short.
“This MIB is a naturally occurring organic compound that will come through the drinking water that has an earthy taste to the water,” said Broken Arrow Director of Utilities Timothy Robins.
He says MIB doesn’t change the color of the water and is completely harmless.
But he says they can do some things like flushing waterlines that helps reduce its taste in the water.
They say if the water has an odd taste in your neighborhood you can contact the City’s Action Center via the Action Center app or by calling (918) 258-3587.
