OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Department of Energy announced plans today to beef up the nation’s electrical grid and to boost power capacity, and Oklahoma will play a key role.
Oklahoma is set to get a federal grant of $250 million to help build a high-capacity power link between Oklahoma and Colorado.
The DOE says the link will increase the transmission capability between the Eastern U.S. and Western U.S., which currently don’t have many ways to transfer power to each other.
The project being administered by Oklahoma is just one of 31 projects in 26 states that will add more than 23 gigawatts of power to the U.S. power grid.
The federal funding for the projects comes from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that was signed into law in November of 2021.
