TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office has released dash camera and body camera video of the deputy involved shooting that occurred on Monday.
The sheriff’s office identified the deputy involved in the incident as Deputy Weston Edwards.
Authorities said Edwards was driving home when he noticed the suspect, later identified as Lucien Auguste, walking in and out of traffic along East 41st Street near South Sheridan Road.
Law enforcement said Edwards pulled over to speak with Auguste because he was concerned the other man might get hit by a car.
Deputies said he was also concerned because he thought Auguste might have been concealing something under his shirt.
At this point, the sheriff’s office claims Auguste pulled out a firearm and shots were exchanged between him and Edwards.
Deputies said Auguste was struck by gunfire and transported to the hospital, where he currently remains in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon.
Deputy Edwards was not hurt during the incident.
The sheriff’s office said he’s on routine paid administrative leave while the shooting investigation continues.
Edwards has been with the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office for 14 years after beginning his career there on July 1, 2012.
Tulsa County Sheriff Vic Regalado shared the following statement:
“We will not be making further comment at this time, as this investigation is ongoing. We are grateful that Deputy Edwards is safe and that no other citizens were harmed during this incident.”
