OWASSO, Okla. — Residents all across Owasso, and even as far north as Collinsville, were puzzled today by a pervasive gas smell that covered a wide area this morning.
Owasso Police were actually asking resident to refrain from calling their dispatchers unless they had new information, because they were getting inundated with hundreds of calls from people reporting the smell.
As it turns out, Oklahoma Natural Gas says it wasn’t coming from either Owasso or Collinsville.
Instead, they say the odor originated from a business in Catoosa that was cleaning a tanker containing mercaptan, a compound that has a strong sulphur smell.
They say it had nothing to do with any of ONG’s system.
