OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board has denied clemency to death row inmate James Dwight Pavatt.
Twenty-five years ago, Pavatt was tried and convicted in the shooting death of Oklahoma City man Robert Andrew.
Prosecutors say that Pavatt was having an affair with Andrew’s wife, Brenda. However, Pavatt’s defense team says there’s no proof that Pavatt was at the scene of Andrew’s murder. He has denied any involvement and claims he wasn’t there at the time of the murder.
Parole board members voted 3-2 yesterday morning in Oklahoma City to deny clemency, and the execution date is set for mid-November unless the governor intervenes. So far this year, two people have been executed in Oklahoma.
