Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols updated the public Thursday about the success of Safe Move Tulsa, the city’s initiative for housing the homeless.

The Mayor says 13 more homeless encampments have been removed, for a total of 25 encampments closed since the initiative began in November 2025. The latest phase of closures represents a milestone in the initiative’s work to move people from encampments into housing.

Mark Smith, CEO of Housing Solutions, said, “…Twenty-five encampments have been closed, and 820 people have exited homelessness overall through the initiative. We’re seeing the results of a coordinated housing-focused strategy that is really producing measurable results.”

Safe Move Tulsa is set to surpass its initial housing goal of 300 in coming weeks. There are now 25 total encampments closed, and 94 percent of people who were housed remain in housing

Kasey Rhone, Executive Director of Kendall Whittier Main Streets, said she’s seen the initiative’s success in her area, and several homeless people who were living near the Kendall Whittier Library are now housed.
