Oklahoma voters elected Mike Mazzei as the state’s next governor on Tuesday.
Mazzei defeated Democratic state Rep. Cyndi Munson and three independent candidates in the contest to succeed two-term Gov. Kevin Stitt.
Nine Republicans entered the race for governor, and the field was narrowed to Mazzei and Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond in June. After finishing second in the primary, Mazzei defeated Drummond in the August runoff to become the Republican nominee.
Mazzei campaigned on eliminating the state income tax, eliminating property taxes for seniors and veterans, bringing more jobs to the state and stopping foreign ownership of Oklahoma land.
He will take office in January 2027.
