A man that ran from the courthouse last week before he was sentenced is now back in custody.

Last week, Chance Oswalt was facing decades in prison when he fled the Tulsa County Courthouse while a jury was deliberating his fate, leading to a manhunt.

After five days of searching, Tulsa Police and Wagoner County Sheriff’s deputies tracked Oswalt to an RV park near Catoosa, but he initially refused to exit the RV. After refusing the officer’s numerous commands, they used pepper balls to get him out of the RV. The fugitive was then taken into custody along with Heather Williams who was helping him hide from police.

Oswalt was on trial for the fentanyl toxicity death of his child in 2023, and the mother of the child, Heather Williams, will have a trial for the same charges early next year.

She was also arrested Monday for harboring a fugitive.

The jury convicted Oswalt last week and recommended a sentence of more than 21 years. He was convicted of child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia.
