Tulsa Police stop attempted theft at now-closed movie theater in Promenade Mall

Tulsa Police Department

Just before 10 p.m. Sunday, Tulsa Police say two suspects broke into the now-defunct “Regal Cinema Promenade Palace 12” movie theater and loaded up a red pick-up truck with furniture, movie theater lenses, and other items from inside the mall.

The suspects were able to gain entry through a boarded-up door facing 41st Street. Before police arrived, they had also lined up several more items near the door and told officers they’d planned to take them as well, reports say.

Officers arrested 26-year-old Melissa Ray and 23-year-old Benjamin Frew without incident. The total amount of equipment and furniture added up to more than $160,000 in value. Police say they found six movie theater projector lenses along with some furniture items. The two were booked into the Tulsa County Jail for second-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Patrol officers were patrolling the area just before 10 p.m. when they noticed a flashing light near the entrance of the mall, and they stopped to investigate. That’s when they found the two suspects allegedly attempting to steal the items.
