U.S. Supreme Court denies request to hear tribal income tax case

A major decision happened Monday on an Oklahoma case at the United States Supreme Court.

Governor Kevin Stitt celebrated the decision to uphold the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s decision in Stroble v. Oklahoma Tax Commission.

The Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal on the case, which means the lower court’s ruling will stand.

The Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled that an enrolled tribal citizen, living and working in eastern Oklahoma, is not exempt from state income tax.

“Plainly stated, laws are not enforced based on race., said Governor Stitt.” “This is about fairness for all four million Oklahomans.”

The governor says McGirt is a narrow decision confined to major crimes only and does not diminish Oklahoma’s broader sovereign authority.
