Owasso Public Schools say a student was arrested after a loaded gun was found in a backpack at Owasso High School on Wednesday.
According to Superintendent Margaret Coates, administrators received a tip from students who were concerned a classmate might have a weapon on campus.
A school security officer and administrators quickly located the student, brought him to the office, and searched his backpack, where they found the firearm.
The student was taken into custody, removed from campus, and will not return for the rest of the school year.
District officials emphasized that all students and staff remained safe throughout the incident and credited the students who spoke up, saying their actions helped protect the school community.
