OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The United Football League has set it sights on Oklahoma with a new team heading to Oklahoma City.
The league has announced that a new team is set for the 2028 spring football season.
“Oklahoma lives and breathes football, so bringing the UFL to Oklahoma City was an easy decision,” said UFL Co-Owner Mike Repole. “This is a state that shows up, cares deeply, and truly understands the game. From college powerhouses to Friday night lights, football runs deep here. We’re committed to building a franchise in OKC that the entire state can rally behind.”
David Holt, Mayor of OKC, says the UFL coming to the city is thanks in part to MAPS 4 Implementation Plan.
“When we pitched the stadium as part of MAPS 4, we promised that bringing OKC its first multipurpose stadium would open up new opportunities,” Holt posted on social media. “And thanks to subsequent added funding from TIF and the 2025 bond issue, the stadium project is now even better positioned for success. Today, we can announce a major new win.”
MAPS 4 is described as a debt-free public improvement program funded by a temporary penny sales tax that will raise a projected $1.07 billion over eight years. The sales tax was approved by voters on December 10, 2019.
The name of the team has not been announced yet. Groundbreaking on the stadium is set for June.
