DEWEY, Okla. — A man has been charged for shooting another man in Dewey Monday morning.
According to Dewey Police Chief Jimmy Gray, Bartlesville dispatch received multiple calls in reference to shots fired in the area of 9th and Creek in Dewey on April 20 at 5:45 a.m. When they arrived, the officer found multiple people in the street and one man, later identified as Chance Smith with multiple gunshot wounds.
Smith was transported to a hospital in Bartlesville by EMS and was later taken to a Tulsa hospital for surgery. Police say Smith is recovering and is considered stable at this time.
The suspect, identified as Stephan Powell was later located and taken into custody without incident. According to court documents, he is being charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
Dewey Police say they believe this was an isolated incident and that no other individuals were injured.
Police are currently investigating and will provide more information when it becomes available.
