Father accused of leaving crash that killed daughter given plea deal

A man whose reckless and drunk driving led to the death of his teenage daughter could get out of prison in two years.

Elliott Binney, 43, recently received a 10-year sentence and will spend five years in custody with five years of probation. The deal includes a judicial review after only two years.

The car accident happened in January 2024 when police say Binney attempted to pass another car in a no-passing zone, causing a crash. He then fled the scene on foot before officers could arrive, and his daughter died from her injuries.

He was initially charged with eight counts, including first-degree manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatality collision, two counts of child neglect, reckless driving, and transporting an open container of liquor. However, the charges for reckless driving and driving left of center were dismissed.
