OKLAHOMA CITY — A bill to permanently ban cell phone use in Oklahoma’s public schools is now sitting on Governor Kevin Stitt’s desk.

The Oklahoma House voted 83-7 to extend the current one year cell phone ban that took effect this school year.

This extension would make it permanent state law that cell phone use in classrooms would remain heavily restricted with limited exceptions for medical devices and other specific uses.

Lawmakers said the one-year ban in place has received many compliments from districts across the state, and they were asked to continue the statewide ban indefinitely.
