Glenpool says lowering speed on SH-67 lowered accidents

GLENPOOL, Okla. –  City leaders say data shows lowering the speed limit on State Highway 67 through Glenpool has resulted in a major reduction in accidents along that stretch of highway.

The speed limit on the stretch of highway through Glenpool was 65 mph.

After 9-year-old Talyn Bain died in a crash on SH-67 in September, the speed limit was lowered to 45 mph.

Police say they have seen a significant decrease in accidents since the speed limit was lowered.

Despite a 45% reduction in accidents, some residents say more needs to be done, and the city says it’s working with ODOT to enhance safety measures.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports troopers have written about 180 speeding tickets along the road since the speed limit change.

OHP says more than 30% of those caught speeding were driving at least 10 miles per hour over the limit.
