Motorcyclist killed in crash Thursday night in Catoosa

CATOOSA, Okla. — A person is dead following a crash in Catoosa Thursday night.

According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Russell Troy Lathrup II, 24, was heading westbound on Highway 412 at speeds in excess of 120 mph when he appeared to begin to halt from for a traffic stop initiated by OHP by slowing down on the exit ramp for 193rd East Avenue. He then accelerated and entered the street.

According to Catoosa Police, Lathrup entered the intersection of 193rd E. Avenue and South Cherokee Street against a red light around 10:15 p.m.

Lathrup then struck an SUV heading eastbound that entered the intersection on a green light. He was thrown from the motorcycle upon impact. The OHP trooper arrived on scene seconds later and began resuscitation efforts on Lathrup.

Lathrup was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was taken to a Tulsa-area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Catoosa PD says Lathrup was wearing a helmet and other protective gear at the time of the crash.
