The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Andrew Etcheverry has been terminated and arrested for a misdemeanor charge of simple assault after an incident at the Tulsa County Jail on Sunday night.
TCSO says Deputy Etcheverry was assisting detention officers with a combative inmate, when the inmate reportedly bit Etcheverry on the hand and Etcheverry responded by punching the hand-cuffed inmate multiple times.
The sheriff’s office says his response is not consistent with the standards that the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office expects from our staff in the treatment of individuals in our custody.
Etcheverry was suspended without pay as the internal affairs and criminal investigation took place.
Following a review of the case, the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office filed a misdemeanor charge, resulting in his termination and arrest.
Etcheverry was hired as a detention officer in 2023 and was promoted to the rank of deputy the next year.
