TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa City Council approved an ambulance rate increase for EMSA on Wednesday, which is the first increase in more than a decade.
EMSA said even though rates will increase, patients won’t see a change in what they pay since coverage typically comes through private insurance, Medicare or Medicaid, and EMSAcare.
The proposal included a $500 fee for patients treated at a scene and not taken to the hospital.
With the new proposal, EMSA will be implementing a 40% uninsured discount to help reduce the impact of the rate increase for Tulsans whose insurance won’t cover the difference.
The new rates are set to take effect in October.
