TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #108 and the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office held their annual Fallen Officer Memorial this morning and it was an extra special one this year.

Deputy Charles Stamper received a headstone over a century after he was killed in the line of duty on October 9, 1910. His unmarked grave was discovered in Oaklawn Cemetery which moved the solemn occassion from Chandler Park.

“Today was extra special because we were able to get a grave marker for Deputy Stamper who lost his life in 1910 I believe it was and it was previously unmarked,” said Tulsa County Sheriff Vic Regalado. “So thank goodness to people who go around the country looking for grave sites that are unmarked or needed to be refurbished of law enforcement officers who have given their life in the line of duty and now he’s got a beautiful grave site there so that people can remember.”

Regalado says that while deputies may have left the world early, their actions and bravery will last generations.

“Keeping their memory alive is the most important thing. We can’t let people forget the ultimate sacrifice of our law enforcement, our veterans and it’s extremely important to keep that alive and I think we’ve done that here today and we will continue to do that for generations.” says Regalado.
