TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Police Department arrested a man it says stole a truck and was in possession of meth.
According to police, officers responded to the Desert Hills Motel near 5220 East 11th Street South for a report of a stolen vehicle on Friday, July 10. The victim said his red Ford F150 was taken earlier in the morning. Surveillance from the hotel showed that a guest staying in another room jumped in the car and left with it.
An officer spotted the truck later in the evening, parked outside the Speakeasy Lounge near 1861 S. Sheridan Road. A store employee reported a suspicious man fitting the description of the suspect standing outside.
The Tulsa Police Helicopter arrived and spotted the suspect getting in the back seat of a black Honda sedan and tracked it eastbound on 21st Street, guiding officers to conduct a traffic stop near 8000 East 21st Street.
Police say that as the car pulled over, they saw a clear plastic bag get tossed out of the rear window. Inside the vehicle, officers searched the floorboard where the suspect was sitting and recovered the stolen truck’s keys, empty baggies, and glass smoking pipes. The bag that was tossed field-tested positive for 7.7 grams of meth.
Police say the suspect is a confirmed Cherokee Nation member and has a history of prior felony convictions. He was booked under Creek jurisdiction for larceny of an automobile, distribution/possession of a controlled substance with intent, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
A front-seat passenger in the sedan was also arrested on an outstanding warrant, while the driver was released.
