Tulsa Police recently used surveillance technology to track down a car thief.
Earlier this week, Tulsa Police responded to the Home Depot on Elgin Avenue when a man walked out of the store and realized his Purple Nissan Rogue was missing from the parking lot.
Officers activated the Real Time Information Center, using Automated License Plate Readers and Surveillance Feeds to track the suspect. Police say they found the stolen Nissan heading north on 33rd West Avenue near 51st Street, and they arrested 30-year-old Jason Southard, who attempted to disguise the vehicle by prying off the Nissan emblem and spray-painting the Nissan lettering on the trunk.
The victim said there was also $1,000 in tools and equipment missing from the vehicle. Southard told Officers he thought if he had a car, he might be able to find work.
He was arrested on complaints of Larceny of an Automobile, Third-Degree Burglary, and Malicious Injury to Property.
