TULSA, Okla. — If you ever wanted to hike the trails at Turkey Mountain, but you’re not sure you want to tackle it by yourself, you might like to know that volunteers lead free guided hikes for groups every month, three days a week.
Turkey Mountain Project Manager Ryan Howell says the idea got started last year, after an attack on the trail had scared some people away.
“Since that time, a lot of that anxiety about Turkey Mountain has died down, and now we’re finding that a lot of people are coming and joining these hikes just because they want to get to learn the mountain better so that they can hike on their own,” Howell said.
The hikes are on Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. and on Thursdays and Saturdays at 8:00 a.m.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome.
The group meets in the lower parking lot at 6850 S. Elwood Ave by the big metal Turkey Mountain sign.
Hikers are advised to bring their own water, wear sturdy shoes, and dress appropriately for the weather.
