Witnesses help police track down a hit-and-run suspect in south Tulsa

KRMG was Red Alert on the Afternoon News Wednesday after a three-car crash near 81st and Sheridan.

Witnesses say a Dodge Nitro was driving more than 80 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone when he caused the collision involving a Chevy Equinox and a Toyota Prius.

Officials said the driver of the Prius was not significantly injured, but the Equinox driver was taken to the hospital with injuries.

Witnesses said the driver got out of his vehicle and ran away from the scene.

They gave police a description and which way he ran so officers were able to track him down at his apartment nearby.

Casey Beckford was taken to the hospital to be medically cleared for possible injuries due to the crash before officers took him to jail.

Beckford was driving on a suspended driver’s license, with an expired registration, and without a seatbelt on.
