OWASSO, Okla. — Two Owasso High School seniors have been named National Merit Semifinalists for the 72nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Jackson Crawford and Morris Vanbeber will compete against 16,000 other semifinalists for some 6,700 National Merit Scholarships worth approximately $24 million.
“Being named a National Merit Semifinalist is a tremendous accomplishment, and it speaks to the hard work and dedication that Jackson and Morris have put into their education,” OPS Superintendent Dr. Margaret Coates said in a statement. “They have truly embraced what it means to ‘Be Your Best’, and they are wonderful representatives of Owasso High School. We are incredibly proud of both of them and excited to see all that they will accomplish in the future.”
To become a finalist, semifinalists and officials must submit a scholarship application, providing information about the academic record, their school and community activities, leadership abilities, employment, and awards and honors received. They must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed by a high school official, have acceptable SAT and ACT scores, and write an essay.
