TULSA, Okla. — The historic Blue Dome is shining again ahead of Tulsa’s 918 Day celebrations and for the Route 66 Centennial.
One of the most recognizable landmarks in Tulsa — the Blue Dome building downtown — is shining bright as of Thursday night for the first time in decades.
“This lighting is more than the completion of a renovation project,” said Jo Armstrong. “It is a celebration of Tulsa’s history, the legacy of Route 66, and the community partnerships that help preserve these important places for future generations.”
Crews recently completed the first phase of a major project that includes restoring the Blue Dome building’s exterior brick, stone, and architectural details.
The 48 lights around the base of the dome were also rewired and restored.
Thursday night’s lighting kicks off Tulsa’s 918 Day celebrations, and the lighting also marks the 100th anniversary of historic Route 66.
