TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Police Department arrested a man following an investigation into a deadly crash that took place in July.
Police said on July 12 around 6:16 p.m., officers responded to a fatal crash near South Memorial Drive and East Admiral Place.
Investigators reviewed camera footage, including data captured by Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR) in the area, to positively confirm the suspect was driving the involved vehicle at the time of the crash.
During the crash, a passenger was ejected through the windshield and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said through the investigation, detectives discovered the following:
- Data from the vehicle’s Event Data Recorder (EDR) showed the car was traveling at a minimum speed of 93 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone just before the crash.
- The suspect was driving the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
- The suspect refused a blood draw at the hospital, and investigators secured a search warrant for his blood samples. Lab testing detected ethyl alcohol, Hydroxy-THC, THC, Diphenhydramine, and Clonazepam.
A certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) determined the suspect was impaired by poly-drug use involving central nervous system depressants and cannabis, leaving him unable to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Police said following the investigation, a felony warrant was issued for the suspect for second-degree murder.
On Thursday morning, officers conducted surveillance at a house near East Independence Street and North 78th East Avenue.
Officers ordered the suspect to exit the home, but he refused. The suspect then jumped out of a side window and tried to run through thick backyard foliage. Officers at the back of the house saw him and took him into custody without further incident.
The suspect was booked into the Tulsa County Jail for second-degree murder and obstructing an officer.
