Professional spring football is coming back to Oklahoma thanks to the United Football League.
The UFL recently announced that Oklahoma City and Salt Lake City will join the professional football league in 2028 when it expands to 10 teams. Utah and Oklahoma will begin play in 2028, while Rhode Island and Colorado will join the 2027 season.
UFL President and CEO Russ Brandon says Oklahoma City brings a lot to the table.
“Like Salt Lake, (OKC is an) emerging market, growing population, great sports state and sports town, and we are very excited to be a part of that city,” he said.
In 1984, the Oklahoma Outlaws played in the United States Football League, a league that tried to compete with the NFL.
“We take a lot of pride in advancing the game of football and being a steward of it, but also pushing the boundaries to provide a lot of fun and entertainment,” Brandon said.
