TULSA, Okla. — Kids in Tulsa are taking matters into their own hands. On Sunday, a group of kids raised money to support the Tulsa Public Schools district.
We reported earlier this month about the budget shortfall at Tulsa Public Schools resulting in possible school closures. However, over the weekend, one group of kids started selling lemonade and other drinks to try to save a few of the schools.
They called the fundraiser “Sip for Schools.” The proceeds of their sales will go towards The Foundation for Tulsa Schools.
The lemonade stand was in Darlington Park. They sold lemonade from 2 p.m. until supplies were out.
On Saturday, the girls received a donation of over 40 bottles of assorted flavored lemonade from local business Mandy’s Fresh Lemonade, and one customer gave $100.
The girls’ stand was also visited by John Croissant, the co-founder of the Lemon-Aid Project.
Over the weekend, the girls managed to raise over $1,700. They now have a goal of reaching $2,000. The girls even added their own money to the total to make it $1,800.
