TULSA, Okla. — In a stunning lawsuit against Bank of Oklahoma, American Waste Control lays out a brazen scheme that fraudsters used to steal nearly $2 million from their account.

It began on Nov. 20, 2025 when American Waste said they got a phone call from someone who identified himself as a BOKF Fraud and Security Employee, explaining there was suspicious activity in American Waste’s Operating Account and asked American Waste to confirm whether wire transfers were authorized.

However, that caller was actually a fraudster, according to the lawsuit, and later that day BOK processed 18 wire transfer to the tune of just over $1 million.

The suit goes on to say that the fraudster then called BOK impersonating an American Waste employee to confirm that the wire transfers were good.

It didn’t stop there.

The very next day, BOK processed 16 more wire transfers totaling $773,300.

“In less than 24 hours, and as a result of the unauthorized wire transfers identified above, the American Waste Operating Account at BOKF had been depleted by $1,841,599,” the lawsuit stated.

American Waste said an actual employee of BOK finally called, saying, “I think you guys were hacked. Let me call you back. I’m going to try and stop all these wires from going out and we’re going to lock down everything, okay?”

But to date, American Waste has only been able to recover just over half a million dollars ($555,597) of the fraudulent wire transfers.

The lawsuit claims BOK “failed to take commercially reasonable steps to stop the fraudulent activity.”

FOX23 reached out to both parties.

American Waste declined to comment, while BOKF has not yet sent in a reply.
