Macy’s Fulfillment Center to close in Owasso

By Fox23.com News Staff and Skyler Cooper

Update: A Macy’s spokesperson told KRMG the company is closing the facility as part of work to modernize their supply chain and simplify how they operate.

We’re told the company is offering some employees the chance to transfer to another location and some workers will be given a severance package.

Macy’s also announced 14 retail stores are closing across the country, but that will not impact either of the two locations left in Oklahoma.

OWASSO, Okla. — The Macy’s Fulfillment Center in Owasso is set to close after operating for over 10 years.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, the 2-million-square foot building opened in August of 2015. At the time of its opening, the center was the largest of its kind for Macy’s.

Macy’s chose Owasso because of partnerships with the State of Oklahoma, Tulsa County, Cherokee Nation Businesses and the City of Owasso, the Oklahoma Department of Commerce said.

The Owasso Chamber of Commerce said it is working with local officials on the next steps for both the employees and the building itself.

Chelsea Levo Feary, President and CEO of the Owasso Chamber of Commerce, shared a statement on the closure.

“Macy’s has been a long-time employer in the region and great member of our Chamber and of the business community. While we are disheartened to hear operations are closing, we are actively communicating with Macy’s, the Tulsa Chamber, and our local partners to proactively get their workforce reengaged as quickly as possible in our community. In addition to workforce, the long-term assets, including the facility itself, will begin to undergo considerations for future economic development,” said Feary.
