TULSA, Okla. — A former Tulsa attorney accused of rape received his sentence after entering a no-contest plea.
On Wednesday, Jeffrey Krigel was convicted of First Degree Rape, First Degree Attempted Rape, and Rape by Instrumentation.
Krigel was arrested by the Tulsa Police Department in 2021 after authorities said they spoke with several victims accusing Krigel of sexual assault.
In Jan. 2023, the Oklahoma Supreme Court suspended Krigel from practicing law, stating he had violated rules of professional conduct.
Krigel entered a no-contest plea to his charges. A no-contest plea is similar to a guilty plea in that a defendant accepts the charges against them, but crucially, a no-contest plea means a defendant hasn’t admitted guilt to any of the charges.
Krigel was sentenced to 10 years for each count against him. However, each of these sentences will be served concurrently.
The first five years of Krigel’s sentence will be served in prison, while the remaining five years will be suspended.
Krigel will receive credit for any time he served in jail leading up to his sentencing, meaning Krigel may spend less than his five-year sentence, depending on how much time he’s already served.
