Catoosa leaders hold ‘topping out’ ceremony for Blue Whale Visitors Center

By Steve Berg

CATOOSA, Okla. — In Catoosa on Monday, the town celebrated a major milestone in the construction of the Blue Whale Visitor’s Center.

The Mayor, City Manager, City Councilors, The Blue Whale builder’s family, and various Route 66 groups were all on hand for a topping-out celebration, to watch crews place the final piece of steel in the building’s structure.

The City of Catoosa is hoping to have the construction done and the building open by the summer, where it’s bound to be a popular stop for tourists and an important feature in the ongoing Route 66 centennial celebration.

The new and improved 4,000-square-foot center will include an expanded gift shop, historical art and photos, updated amenities for travelers, a concession stand, and a rentable meeting hall and event space that can host up to 190 people.
