TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Police Department is reminding the public to stay off of train tracks after a man was struck and injured by a train on Monday afternoon.
Officers said they were flagged down near 42nd Place and Southwest Boulevard around 5:45 p.m. on Monday.
According to witnesses, they were waiting in their cars at the railroad crossing barriers when they saw the victim attempting to cross the tracks on foot.
They said the conductor of the train had the engine’s headlight on and was sounding the horn, but the man continued crossing the tracks.
The train hit the man going 16 miles per hour, which can cause great injury or death due to the sheer size of the train.

Authorities said the 71-year-old victim had significant injuries to his head and leg.
Paramedics transported the man to the hospital in critical condition.
The Tulsa Police Department said it’s vital to always be careful around trains and train tracks.
“Please be cautious at railroad crossings. Remain aware of your surroundings and do not cross in front of moving trains.”
